The Rennie Collection at the Wing Sang
Housed in one of Chinatown’s oldest buildings, the Wing Sang at 51 East Pender Street, real estate magnate Bob Rennie’s new art museum recently opened with an exhibit of Palestinian artist Mona Haroum’s works. Planning on showing three exhibits per year from his impressive contemporary art collection, The Rennie Collection’s upcoming exhibit schedule includes artists Richard Jackson, Thomas Houseago, Amy Brisson and Kerry James Marshall. This new gallery is an incredible addition to Vancouver’s art scene.
Bob Rennie’s art collection started with the purchase of a Norman Rockwell print years ago and now includes work by international art stars such as Anselm Kiefer, Glenn Brown, Ed Ruscha and local luminaries Ian Wallace, Rodney Graham and Brian Jungen. The museum is open to the public by appointment only on Thursdays. Tours are conducted by art students from Emily Carr University. Anyone with an interest in contemporary art would be well served to book a tour.
As is the case with many other museums and galleries in Vancouver, Denbigh provides transport, crating and other services for the Rennie Collection. When international museums borrow pieces from the collection, we construct touring crates of the highest standards to ensure the works return to Vancouver in excellent condition. Works in the Rennie Collection run the gamut from very large canvases to oversize and fragile sculptures. We are very pleased to be able to provide these important services to the Rennie Collection and we wish them all the best with their newest endeavour.
East Side Culture Crawl 2009

It’s November in Vancouver and that means one thing besides rain. It’s time for the annual Eastside Culture Crawl. If you missed it, this year’s event took place from Friday, November 20 to Sunday, November 22. It was another successful weekend and as usual a good time was had by all. Denbigh employees Scott Moore, Ryan Amadore and Hugh Kearney were among the artists who opened their studio doors to the public.
If you need to get ready for next year, the Eastside Culture Crawl is an annual Vancouver event in which artists working on Vancouver’s East Side open their studios to the public. The Crawl area is bounded by Main Street, First Avenue, Commercial Drive and the waterfront and is designed to be “crawled” over three days. 63 studio spaces and galleries were involved in 2009’s event. The Crawl is a chance to buy artwork directly from its creators, commission pieces of your very own, see a number of different studio spaces and have a great time doing it. The timing of the Crawl right before Christmas is also great for working your way through your gift buying list. Don’t miss the Crawl in 2010. Support your local artists and enjoy being part of the scene!
