OCTOBER 2009
It’s Auction Season! Fall is upon us, and with it comes the auction season in Vancouver. Many local non-commercial galleries and arts organizations hold yearly fund raising auctions to help support our arts community. These are especially important during these times of sudden government cutbacks and tough economic realities.

Both the Vancouver Contemporary Art Gallery and the Arts Umbrella’s Splash auctions were great successes this year. These events will allow the continuation of many great programs and functions for both organizations. Denbigh Fine Art Services is proud to support these very worthwhile events by donating its transportation and storage services, and has done so for the past 15 years.
The Contemporary Art Gallery's 21st Annual Gala Dinner & Art Auction was held at the Vancouver Club on Saturday, September 26, 2009. It was a tremendously successful night featuring both silent and live auctions, with a vintage dance party theme and performance. Local boy Geoffrey Farmer and Denbigh alum Kevin Schmidt were amongst the artists featured. If you missed it, you have time to get your moves ready for next year…
Art Umbrella’s annual Splash auction was held at Performance Works on Granville Island on Saturday, October 17. Over 500 guests attended the sold out event which raised over $360,000 for this great organization. Available to bid on were works by Fred Herzog, Ross Penhall, Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun and long-time local fave Gordon Smith. If you don’t know, Arts Umbrella is a Vancouver based non-profit society for visual and performing arts for children. They do great work and we’re very happy to support their efforts.
Don’t miss out on next year’s events. Be a part of your local arts community and show your support by attending. It’s a great opportunity to take in some amazing artwork, have a wonderful evening out and maybe even take home a piece of history.
